FAQ’s

The Central Florida Media Committee has compiled a list of of frequently asked questions related to media operations for the State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman trial.  We are still finalizing the answers to some frequently asked questions which will be updated when information confirmed.

Certificate of Insurance:

Media outlets and vendors working in the designated media areas outside of the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center and the  overflow lot need to provide a certificate of insurance listing the City of Sanford and Seminole County as additionally insured on the General and Automobile Liability with limits of $1 million and proof of workers compensation on your Certificate of Insurance for all participants/vendors/agents.  The certificate should be posted in the windshield of vehicle or window of a workspace trailer or tent.  A copy should also be emailed to: LISA.JONES@Sanfordfl.gov

Courtroom Seating:

If you were not assigned a seat and wish to be placed on the waitlist, please send an email to Michelle Kennedy Michelle.Kennedy@flcourts18.org with the subject header WAITLIST.

Organizations that submitted an application prior to the March 15 deadline will be given preference.

Credentials

The court will not be issuing credentials to individual journalists.  Media outlets which have met the definition of media, have demonstrated coverage of legal events related to the planned State of Florida vs. George Zimmerman trial and submitted a written or emailed request for courtroom access prior to the deadline of March 15, 2013 have been provided with seating and access to media related resources. Journalists from media outlets recognized by the court should wear identification issued from their media outlets when working in the courtroom or the media work areas surrounding the courthouse.

Electrical Power
No electrical power will be available for journalists working in assigned gavel-to-gavel seats in courtroom 5D at anytime. Journalists working in the overflow work area in courtroom 1B may use the limited electrical power supplied via power strips which will be shared and used on a first come first served basis.  The jury box in courtroom 1B will be used as a charging station.  Media outlets assigned workspace in the interview rooms of courtroom 1B may use the power strips provided on a first come first served basis.  Journalists will not be allowed to bring power strips into the courthouse.  External battery packs may be used in both courtroom 5D and 1B.  Link to battery pack

Inflamatory Language (6/17/2013)

The Defense Motion in Limine regarding inflamatory language has not been noticed for hearing, therefore the Judge has not yet ruled on this matter.

Media Parking

Journalists from Media Outlets recognized by the court in an official capacity will be issued parking passes for the media lot located south of the main courthouse complex.  The parking lot and the designated media work area is connected with a walking bridge and gate.  Parking passes were distributed on site by the media committee on May 28, 2013. Live Truck Parking

Media outlets not assigned space within the designated media work areas surrounding the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center may use the over lot South of the complex.  Television trucks will be able to access the pool feeds and have a courthouse backdrop for their live shots.

Pool Feed Information:
Media outlets assigned workspace in the interview rooms of courtroom 1B will be able to connect to the analog and SDI pool feeds of the court proceedings and press conferences. Media outlets assigned space and in the parking lot will connect to clean HD (1080i) or SD feed of the court proceedings and a separate HD (1080i) or SD feed of the press conferences in courtroom 1B.  All pool feed connections for media outlets working in the designated media area and the overflow lot will be made available from the pool feed trailer.

Press Conferences:
A pool TV camera will shoot press conferences and announcements held in courtroom 1B.  The press conference feed will be delivered on site via a 2nd connection.  The press conferences will be delivered as part of the pool satellite feed.  No other cameras are allowed in the courthouse.

Satellite Coordinates

The national networks (ABC, CBS, NBC & Turner Broadcasting Networks) will be providing a high definition satellite feed of the pool courtroom feed and press conferences.

The Orlando Sentinel is serving as the still photo pool in courtroom 5D. Media outlets should make a request for download access from the Orlando Sentinel Flickr page?
